Pricing & Value

5 questions · how Eagle calculates the offer and what the number depends on

How much can I get for my junk car in Calgary?

A junk car's value in Calgary depends on five measurable factors: vehicle weight, current scrap metal prices, parts demand for the year/make/model, condition, and catalytic converter status. Most everyday junk cars in Calgary land somewhere between a few hundred dollars and several thousand, but the exact number depends on the specifics of your vehicle. Eagle quotes the actual number after a quick phone call — see our pricing methodology for the full breakdown of how each factor moves the number.

How does Eagle calculate the offer for my car?

Eagle uses a five-factor methodology: vehicle weight, current Alberta scrap metal prices, parts demand for the year/make/model, overall condition, and catalytic converter status. Once you share the year, make, model, condition, and pickup location, we calculate the quote in about five minutes by phone. The number you accept is the number you receive at pickup, as long as the vehicle matches the description — no hidden deductions, no "we'll see when we get there" surprises.

What if my car doesn't run — can I still sell it?

Yes — non-running cars are one of Eagle's most common pickups in Calgary. A dead battery, blown engine, transmission failure, or unknown issue doesn't disqualify the vehicle; the offer simply accounts for towing, condition, and remaining parts value. See our junk car removal page for what's typical on non-running pickups, including vehicles that haven't started in years.

Is the Eagle quote final, or can it change at pickup?

The phone or email quote is the working number, and as long as the vehicle matches the description on the call, that's the number you receive at pickup. If the driver arrives and finds the vehicle materially different from what was described — missing engine, additional damage, or a missing catalytic converter when one was claimed — the quote may be revised, and you can accept the revised number or decline the sale at no charge. This is rare in practice; most quotes hold exactly as agreed because most sellers describe their vehicles accurately.

Why don't you give me an exact number over the phone right now?

An accurate junk car quote depends on the year, make, model, condition, location, missing parts, and converter status. A quote given before those details are known is a rough estimate, not a reliable pickup offer. Eagle confirms the details in a five-minute phone call, and the quoted number is the number paid at pickup, as long as the vehicle matches the description.

Process & Pickup

5 questions · scheduling, paperwork at pickup, and how the transaction closes

How long does the whole process take?

The full process — quote call, pickup scheduling, paperwork, and cash payment — typically takes between 24 and 72 hours from your first call. The quote call itself is under five minutes; the pickup window is scheduled around your availability. See how it works for the full step-by-step, including what to do before the driver arrives.

Can you pick up the car the same day I call?

Often, yes — same-day pickup is common in Calgary and the four nearby Tier A communities (Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, High River) when the vehicle is accessible and you accept the quote during business hours. For outer communities, we'll schedule pickup around your availability — usually within a few days, sometimes sooner. Cash-for-cars is rarely an emergency, so we'd rather get it right than rush.

Do you bring the bill of sale, or do I need to print one?

Eagle brings the standard Alberta Bill of Sale (ARP006/REG3126) to every pickup — you don't need to print or prepare anything. The driver fills it out at pickup, you sign it, and you receive a signed copy along with your cash payment. The Bill of Sale is the same form used at any Alberta registry for vehicle transfers; full paperwork details are on our Alberta paperwork page.

What if my car has no wheels or won't roll?

Eagle has the equipment to tow vehicles in any condition, including cars without wheels, vehicles stuck in underground parking, and cars that can't be rolled. Just mention the situation during the quote call so the driver brings the right equipment for your specific pickup. There's no extra charge for difficult retrieval — it's part of the free towing on every accepted offer.

Will the driver actually have cash on them?

Yes — the driver arrives with cash for the agreed quote amount, counted and confirmed before the truck leaves your driveway. E-transfer or cheque are available on request if you prefer those over cash; just mention your preference during the quote call. The payment happens at the same time as the signed Alberta Bill of Sale, so the transaction closes on the spot.

Paperwork & Legal

7 questions · documents, registration, plates, insurance, financed and inherited vehicles

What documents do I need to sell my car in Alberta?

You need a valid government-issued photo ID and your current Alberta vehicle registration showing you as the registered owner. Eagle brings the Alberta Bill of Sale (ARP006/REG3126) to the pickup and fills it out on site, so you don't need to prepare any forms. Full details, including edge cases like inheritance and lost registration, are on our Alberta paperwork page.

What if I lost my registration?

Visit any Alberta Registry Agent with your ID and VIN to request a replacement registration — most can issue one the same day for a small fee. Once you have it, call us back at (587) 896-0034 to schedule pickup. Eagle can't complete the sale without proof of current registration in your name, so this step needs to happen first.

Do I need the title, or is registration enough in Alberta?

Alberta doesn't issue separate vehicle titles the way many other provinces and jurisdictions do — your Alberta vehicle registration is the ownership document. As long as the registration is in your name (or you have legal authority to sell, such as documented inheritance or power of attorney), you have what you need to complete the sale. This is one of the most common points of confusion for people moving to Alberta from jurisdictions that use a separate title document.

Can I sell a car that's still under finance?

Selling a financed car is possible but requires the lien to be cleared before or at the sale — Eagle can't take ownership of a vehicle with an active lien against it. Typically the seller works with the lender to either pay off the balance using sale proceeds or settle the loan first, then provides documentation showing the lien has been released. Call (587) 896-0034 with your financing details and we'll walk through the cleanest path for your specific situation.

What if the car was inherited and registered to a deceased person?

Eagle buys inherited vehicles, but the sale needs documentation showing legal authority to dispose of the estate's assets — typically a grant of probate, letters of administration, or a small-estate declaration depending on Alberta's threshold rules. The cleaner route is often to transfer the registration into the executor's name at an Alberta Registry Agent first, then sell normally. Call (587) 896-0034 with the situation and we'll explain which documents will close the transaction without delays.

What happens to my licence plates after the sale?

You keep your plates after the sale — in Alberta, plates belong to the registered owner, not the vehicle. Remove them before pickup, return them to any Alberta Registry Agent if you don't plan to transfer them to another vehicle, and remember to cancel your insurance afterward. Leaving plates on a vehicle that's been sold can create liability if the buyer (or anyone else) is later flagged using them.

When should I cancel my insurance?

Cancel your insurance after pickup is complete and you've removed the plates — not before. Cancelling early can leave a coverage gap that affects future premiums, and you want coverage in place until the vehicle is no longer your responsibility on the road. Once the pickup is done, call your insurer to cancel that vehicle's coverage and request any unused premium refund.

Vehicle Condition

4 questions · what Eagle will and won't buy, and how condition affects the offer

Do you buy cars that don't start?

Yes, non-running cars are one of Eagle's most common pickups across Calgary and the surrounding service area. Whether the issue is a dead battery, a blown engine, transmission failure, seized motor, or unknown — Eagle buys the vehicle and tows it at no charge to you. The car doesn't need to be drivable, started for a test, or anything beyond accessible to the tow truck.

Do you buy insurance write-offs?

Yes, Eagle buys insurance write-offs and total-loss buyback vehicles. Bring the documentation you received from your insurer to the pickup, because Alberta has specific rules about resale of written-off vehicles that affect how the paperwork is processed. The vehicle's branded status (non-repairable, salvage, rebuilt) doesn't disqualify it from sale to Eagle, but it does affect the offer.

Do you buy cars without catalytic converters?

Yes — Eagle buys vehicles whether the catalytic converter is attached, removed, or stolen. A missing converter reduces the offer because converters contain platinum, palladium, and rhodium that add value beyond the vehicle's metal weight, but it doesn't disqualify the vehicle from sale. Catalytic converter theft has been a documented issue in Alberta for several years, so we see this regularly and quote accordingly.

Do you buy stripped or partial vehicles?

Yes, Eagle buys partial and stripped vehicles. Missing parts — wheels, doors, engine, transmission, converter — all factor into the quote, but a stripped vehicle still has scrap value and Eagle still picks it up. Mention which parts are missing on the quote call so the offer reflects what's actually there.

Service Area & Logistics

4 questions · the 32 communities, free towing, and pickup edge cases

Do you serve my city?

Eagle serves 32 communities across southern and central Alberta, including Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, High River, Banff, Canmore, Strathmore, Drumheller, Brooks, Red Deer, and Lethbridge — among others. The full list is on our service areas page. If your city isn't on the list, call (587) 896-0034 anyway; we can sometimes accommodate adjacent locations depending on schedule.

Is towing really free, or are there conditions?

Free towing is included on every accepted offer — across all 32 communities Eagle serves. No distance fees. Eagle absorbs the full tow cost as a cost of doing business, whether your vehicle is in Calgary, Cochrane, Lethbridge, or anywhere else we serve. The phone or email quote is the working number. If the driver arrives and finds the vehicle materially different from what was described, the quote may be revised at pickup — you can accept the revised quote or decline the sale at no charge.

What's your service zone for free towing?

All 32 communities Eagle serves — listed on our Service Areas page. That includes Calgary, the four Tier A satellites (Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, High River), seven outer Tier B cities (Banff, Canmore, Strathmore, Drumheller, Brooks, Red Deer, Lethbridge), and 20 smaller communities across southern and central Alberta. No distance fees on any of them.

Do you do mountain town pickups (Banff, Canmore)?

Yes, Eagle picks up vehicles in Banff and Canmore — both are on our 32-community service area with free towing included, no distance fees. Pickup is scheduled around your availability rather than same-day, given the drive time from NE Calgary into the Bow Valley. Winter pickups are routine, but a heads-up about road conditions during a Highway 1 closure helps us plan the route.
